Stewardship

Pysht River Estuary

Harvest Buffer protecting wetlands, Lewis County, WA

Environmental

More than 135 years of sustainable forest management gives us perspective our future depends on to learn, adapt, and improve. Because of our extensive history and dedication to healthy forest ecosystems, our forests will provide a continuous supply of trees for carbon, wood, paper, and pulp-based products while promoting and protecting healthy soils, water, trees, and wildlife habitat for future generations.

Social

Social Stewardship is about connection to, and leadership within, the communities where we work. We define leadership as the ability to make the forest and the community better as a whole, and we actively seek out and promote this trait wherever we find it – in our employees, partners, government agencies, or local Tribes.

  • We adhere to, and provide input on, the Forests and Fish Law in Washington State. This involves constant collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Department of Ecology, and local Tribes.
  • We continue to work with local tribes to improve fish habitat in the Pysht River watershed, defend against invasive species in the Pysht River estuary, and perform various wildlife studies on Elk, Deer and Cougar at the Pysht Tree Farm.
  • We maintain public access programs for recreation opportunities on our lands.
  • Every year, our organization, shareholders, and employees collectively donate significant charitable contributions to the communities where we work.

Governance

As a privately held forest owner, our primary objective is to ensure a healthy future for our children through our dedication to working forests. Our governance structure focuses on leadership within our multigeneraltional ownership, our dedicated and valued employees, as well as within our working communities. This broad and inclusive perspective gives us the best chance to ensure constant improvement in our forests and our communities, and ultimately a healthier future.
